Hi. Welcome to Redeem the Commute. I’m Ryan, your host for the Money Course.

Note that cutting spending isn’t the only way, you can also try and increase your income.

  • Benefits
    • Make sure you’re claiming all the benefits you’re entitled to. Visit your government web sites to figure out what’s possible.
  • Taking in a renter
  • Get a second job
  • Work extra hours or shifts.
  • Make sure you are getting paid properly – above minimum wage, and they haven’t missed a payment.
  • Ask adult children for rent
  • Make sure you are being paid child support, or another settlement
  • Make sure you’re not overpaying tax – get a free assessment
  • Make sure you aren’t overpaying for cell phones, etc.
  • Selling items that you don’t need
    • If you need some extra money to cover your costs why not try doing a car boot sale or selling items on eBay? It won’t be a long term solution but might help you out if you get an unexpected bill.

Could you look for an additional job where you work part time? Or maybe you could try to increase your hours at work? This isn’t always easy, but even working an extra hour or two a week can provide you with income to help pay your household bills.
