Hi, welcome to Redeem the Commute. I’m Ryan, your host for the daily challenges.

Our daily challenges are meant to help you explore what it means to follow Jesus, even if you don’t have a lot of time. We have a rhythm that keeps us in sync, even if we’re not a community that meets together in person regularly. Every Monday we introduce the week’s idea. Every Tuesday we study it in the Bible. Every Wednesday we see how that challenges and transforms our thinking on the topic. Thursdays we try to apply and live it out. Friday is a day for prayer and reflection before we take a rest on Saturday, and Sundays we meet together with others in community.

Our series right now is called “We Are”. It follows on two other series – “God Is…” and “Jesus Is…”. Our attention now turns to us, human beings, and what knowing God and following Jesus actually means for our lives.

I was reading last week about the evacutation of Fort MacMurray, and how it was amazing no one was killed, exept for two in a traffic accident. Amazingly people stayed calm under pressure. One theory is that so many people’s work in the oil industry spills over into community at large, including the focus on safety in industry.

People were able to remain calm. One bus driver drove down median, and a few on sidewalks, but 95% of people were calm, orderly and patient in a crisis.

If only we could say the same in life. Just last week I also heard people muttering on a commuter train about how they could never find seats. They got worse and worse – not even able to stay calm on the way to work.

With all the big challenges of life, it can be hard to face without a panic.

This week we’ll read a passage from the Bible where Paul, an early Christian teacher, describes the source of a Christian’s peace in challenging times.

Question: What helps you keep your cool in a panic situation?
